Batting icon Sachin Tendulkar turns 44

Mumbai, Apr 24 (IBNS): One of the biggest stars in the world of cricket, former Indian skipper Sachin Tendulkar, known for setting numerous records on the field during his career, turned 44 on Monday.

Born in Mumbai, on April 24, 1973, Sachin Tendulkar was the first man to score a double century in the history of ODI cricket.

He also  scored 100 international hundreds and played 200 Tests in his career that spanned for 24 years.

Meanwhile, cricketers and other sports personalities from across the globe wished him on his birthday.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who had played with Sachin in his career and even clinched the 2011 World Cup together, tweeted: "Happy B'day Paaji . May God bless you with more happiness and peace in life. My cricket hero always. @sachin_rt."

Indian team coach Anil Kumble greeted the Indian batting legend over Twitter as he wrote: "#HappyBirthdaySachin. One of the most inspiring sportsmen the world has seen. Hope you have a splendid year ahead @sachin_rt."

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag posted: "A rare occasion when one could have committed a crime,God ji sleeping.To a man who could stop time in India, #HappyBirthdaySachin @sachin_rt."

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh wished Sachin and said: "Many happy returns of the day master blaster ! God bless you always @sachin_rt."

Indian pacer Umesh Yadav greeted Sachin as he posted: "Special day, special person and special celebration. May all your dreams and desires come true.Happy birthday Sachin @sachin_rt."

Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh joined the cricket fraternity in wishing the former India skipper as he said: "Happy birthday paaji @sachin_rt lots of love and best wishes .. khush raho tandrust raho..we love you ."

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif remarked: "Happy B'day to a man who has touched an emotional chord with a billion people, a part of our lives forever, @sachin_rt
#HappyBirthdaySachin."

Apart from Indian cricketers, foreign stars also wished Sachin on his birthday.

Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum said: "Happy birthday to @sachin_rt An inspiration to 1.2 billion indians and also every other cricketer around the World. Legend."

Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist tweeted: "Happy birthday @sachin_rt and @bowlologist."

Former Australian World Cup winnign skipper Michael Clarke remarked: "Happy bday to the great @sachin_rt, 44 years young today. Hope you have a great day and year to come mate! ."


Adding feathers to his cap, Sachin Tendulkar had earned the Bharat Ratna award even became a Rajya Sabha MP.

A biographical documentary on Tendulkar "Sachin: A Billion Dreams" is all set to make theatrical release on May 26.

The film has been directed by James Erskine.

In his career, Sachin had scored 34357 runs in international cricket.
