Bangladesh starts T20 World Cup campaign with victory against Netherlands in Super 12 thriller

Hobart: Bangladesh commenced their T20 World Cup campaign by beating Netherlands by nine runs in a Super 12 stage match of the tournament.

Batting first Bangladesh posted 144 runs for the loss of eight wickets and then the bowlers bowled out the opponents for 135 runs.

Afif Hossain remained the top scorer for Bangladesh as he added 38 runs.

He hit two boundaries and sixes in his knock.

The Dutch bowlers kept the situation tight and kept taking wickets at regular intervals in the match.

Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede picked up two wickets each.

Despite, Colin Ackermann (62)'s attempt, Bangladesh bowlers kept themselves calm and ensured a victory at the end.

Paul van Meekeren gave Bangladeshi bowlers a scare by hammering 14-ball 24.

He hit three boundaries and a six in his innings.  Soumya Sarkar dismissed him to end the Dutch hopes of winning the match.

Sarkar kept his nerves calm to dismiss the number 11 batsman in the last ball of the innings.

Bangladesh is now positioned second in the group, behind India.

Netherlands are currently at the bottom of Group Two.

Taskin Ahmed picked up four wickets for Bangladesh.

Netherlands will next face India.
