Bangladesh beat spirited Afghanistan
After posting 267 runs on the scoreboard after initial struggle, Bangladesh bowlers, specially skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, bowled out Afghanistan for 162.
Samiullah Shenwari (42) and Mohammad Nabi (44) were the only two batsmen to contribute some runs for Afghanistan. The side was once reduced to 3-3 after Javed Ahmadi (1), Afsar Zazai(1) and Asghar Stanikzai (1) departed quickly without making much contributions.
Mortaza bowled brilliantly to take three wickets by giving away 20 runs in his 9 overs.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently number one in the ICC rankings, scalped two wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh struggled in front of spirited Afghanistan bowlers who impressed with their performance in their debut World Cup match.
Bangladesh was bowled out for 267 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan (63) and Mushfiqur Rahim (71) added 114 runs in the fifth wicket partnership to pull out the side that was struggling in front of the Afghan attack.
Mashrafe Mortaza played a quick-fire knock of nine-ball 14 , which included three boundaries, which helped the side go past 260-run mark.
Afghanistan's Hamid Hassan,Shapoor Zadran, Aftab Alam and Mirwais Ashraf took two wickets apiece.
Afghanistan had defeated Bangladesh in an Asia Cup game last year. But Bangladesh bowlers prevented such a fate to Wednesday's clash and emerged victorious int he first match of their World Cup campaign.
