Australia set 275 as target for India to win Brisbane Test
Brisbane/IBNS: Australia set 275 as target for India to win the rain-interrupted third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at The Gabba in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Australia scored a quick 89-7 in the second innings to extend their lead to 274.
Aussie captain Pat Cummins' 22 from 10 balls and wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey's 20 from as many balls helped Australia to challenge India with a reasonable target.
Indian pace bowlers rattled Australia's top and middle order in the second innings, riding on vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah's 3-18, Akash Deep's 2-28 and Mohammed Siraj's 2-36.
Earlier in the day, Australia bowled out India for 260 though the hosts missed the opportunity to enforce follow-on against their opponents after Akash Deep and Bumrah ensured their team got past the 246-mark.
After Australia scored 445 in the first innings, India's fight with the bat was heavily contributed by KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja earlier in the day.
While Rahul was dismissed for 84 by Nathan Lyon, Jadeja, who is the number one Test allrounder in world cricket, slammed 77 from 123 balls.
Young Nitish Kumar Reddy might have added only 16 to the scoreboard but survived 61 balls to give a solid support to his senior partner Jadeja.
Aussie skipper Pat Cummins has so far picked four crucial wickets including the one of Jadeja to bolster the hosts' dominance at The Gabba.
The five-match Test series is evenly placed 1-1.
