Hammering the young side and posting a mammoth 417 runs for the loss of six wickets, Australian bowlers bowled out Afghanistan for 142 runs in 37.3 overs.
David Warner remained the top scorer for the side for 178 runs. he hit 19 boundaries and five sixes in his 133 balls knock.
Steven Smith (95) and Glenn Maxwell (88) also contributed with their willows to help Australia post the highest total in the history of the World Cup.
Australia broke the record set by India in 2007 World Cup against Bermuda by posting 413-5.
Dawlat Zadran and Shapoor Zadran took two wickets each for Afghanistan.
Mitchell Johnson took four wickets to destroy Afghanistan and bowl out Afghanistan for 142 runs.
