Australia beat India in first Test

| | Dec 14, 2014, at 12:59 am
Adelaide, Dec 13 (IBNS) Despite a scintillating and career-best 141 by captain Virat Kohli, India was handed a 48-run by defeat by hosts Australia in the first Test here on Saturday.
Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon was the architect of the win as he took 7 for 152 to clinch the match in favour of the hosts.  He crushed any hope of an Indian win that was generated by a partnership by Murali Vijay and stand-in skipper Virat Kohli.

The win for Australia perhaps is a befitting tribute to Aussie cricketer Phillip Hughes who died after he was hit in the neck by a bouncer, during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia went up 1-0 with the win in the four-match series.

Brief Score: Australia 7 for 517 declared (Warner 145, Clarke 128, Smith 162*) and 5 for 290 declared (Warner 102).
                    India 444 (Kohli 115, Lyon 5-134) and 315 (Vijay 99, Kohli 141, Lyon 7-152).
Australia beat India by 48 runs
