Aus Open victory: Prez congratulates Leander Paes

New Delhi, Feb 1 (IBNS): President of India Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday congratulated Tennis icon Leander Paes for winning the Australian Open Mixed Doubles title in Melbourne.

In a message, the President said, “Please accept my hearty congratulations on having won the Australian Open Mixed Doubles in Melbourne, making it your 15th Grand Slam title."

"Your achievement is an inspiration for the youth of our country. The whole country joins your family and you in celebrating this impressive achievement," he said.

"I wish you continuing success and many more laurels in the future," he said.

Paes joined another icon Martina Hingis as they defeated Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic of France to add another Australian Open title to his crown on Sunday.

Paes and Hingis defeated their opponents 6-4 6-3 to clinch the mixed doubles title.
