Asian Games Indian women badminton team settle for bronze

Incheon, Sept 21 (IBNS): India settled for bronze after losing the women’s team badminton semifinal clash of the Asian Games against South Korea 1-3 here on Sunday.

In the first match, Indian badminton icon Saina Nehwal defeated her South Korean opponent Sung Jihyun 21-12, 10-21, 21-9 to take a 1-0 lead.

India, however, lost the momentum in the next clashes and it was South Korean players who dominated the game from that point.

In a thrilling encounter,  P.V. Sindhu  lost her clash against Bae Yeonju 21-14, 18-21, 21-13. South Korea leveled the contest to 1-1 with the win.

Korean pair of Kim Soyeong and Chang Yena beat the Indian opponents  Pradnya Gadre and N Sikki Reddy  in the doubles clash by  16-21 17-21 to extend the lead to 1-2.

The home side settled the match to their favour as  Kim Hyomin defeated P.C. Thulasi 21-12 21-18 .

India and Japan settled for bronze.

This was the maiden bronze medal in the Asian Games for the Indian women team.
