Asia Cup ideal preparation before WT20: Virat Kohli

| | Feb 24, 2016, at 01:06 am
Dhaka, Feb 23 (IBNS): Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli on Tuesday said the Asia Cup is a good platform for preparing for the ICC World T20.

"The Asia Cup is a global competition against the strongest sub-continent teams," Kohli was quoted as saying by bcci.tv.

"It is a good opportunity to test ourselves in conditions similar to that of the World Cup ahead. This will test us and it will be a challenge against other teams to do well. You have to be at your best because you have different oppositions with different set of skills, testing you out all the time," the Indian Test skipper said.

"We will probably play all these oppositions at some stage in the T20 World Cup. As many different teams as we play before the World Cup, it will give us a great opportunity to assess their balance, their strengths and weaknesses and where we stand against them," he said.

He said the Indian team will take one game at a time.

"The team has been playing well over the past few months, and we are carrying with us a good momentum into the Asia Cup. Eventually focusing on every game is important. We can’t think that we have to win the Asia cup right from the beginning; that is thinking too far. The process has to be gradual and we will get the results and they are there to be seen. As a team, you try to take forward that momentum with you. We can’t play with over confidence,” he said.

India will face Bangladesh in their first match of the Asia Cup.
