Mumbai, Feb 19 (IBNS): Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Sunday stepped down as captain of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rising Pune Supergiants, media reports said.

According to reports, Australian captain Steve Smith will be replacing Dhoni in the team.

The Pune franchise are yet to give a confirmation, reports said.

The 10th season of IPL is  starting from April 5.

In January, Dhoni had stepped down as the skipper of the ODI and T20 side.

Dhoni has donned the hat of a captain of an IPL team in all past nine seasons.

He first led Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2015, and then became the skipper of Pune Supergiants in 2016 after the Chennai franchise was suspended.
