AB's fastest 162 helps SA thrash WI
Riding on skipper AB de Villiers' record unbeaten 162 runs knock, South Africa posted 408 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 50 overs and then the bowlers belonging to the African side bowled out West Indies for 151 runs in 33.1 overs.
AB de Villiers hammered 17 boundaries and eight sixes in his 66 balls knock as he hit the fastest ever 150 in one-day internationals.
Hasim Amla (65),Faf du Plessis (62) and Rilee Rossouw (61) also contributed with their willows as South Africa reached the second highest score in the World Cup. India's 413-5 against Bermuda at Port of Spain in 2007 remains the World Cup record.
AB de Villiers had created the fastest century in ODIs against the same opponents recently.
Andre Russell and Chris Gayle took two wickets for West Indies.
West Indies skipper Jason Holder received tremendous thrashing from the hands of the South African batsmen as he gave away 104 runs in his 10 overs. He was hit for 64 runs in his last two overs.
West Indies batsmen stumbled in front of the strong South African bowling with Chris Gayle, who scored a double century in the last match against Zimbabwe, was bowled out for 3 runs.
It was only Dwayne Smith (31) and Holder (56) who tried to put up some resistance but South African bowlers put up a brilliant show to bowl out their opponents for 151 runs.
Imran Tahir (5-45) was the pick of the South African bowlers as the West Indies batsmen failed to deliver against the leg spinner.
After the match, Holder said the South African captain took away the match away from their side.
"AB took the game away from us. If you take away his innings, it looked a totally different score. We dropped chances, and chasing 400 was always tough," he said after the match.
AB de Villiers said: "Very enjoyable day.... Really good performance after the MCG performance."
