Hyderabad, Apr 23 (IBNS) Woman boxer MC Mary Kom, who was recently nominated in Rajya Sabha along with five others, said it is a great honour for her.

Reports have quoted the pugilist as stating, "It’s a great honour for me."

She was attending a promotional event in Hyderabad on Friday where she said, "I have never ever dreamt of this. I was only focused on my training and qualification for this year’s Rio Olympics. I have always yearned to win an Olympic gold."

The 33-year-old, who is yet to qualify for the upcoming Rio Olympics, said that she is presently busy with the qualification matches.

"The Astana event is on my mind currently. I will have to make the final there to qualify for this year’s Olympics. I am doing my best and preparing hard to make it to Rio," Mary said.

Earlier, in an interview given to IBNS, Mary had said that she is confident of making it past the qualifying rounds and will win a medal.

"I am very confident about winning a medal at Rio. I fully concentrate on my training and I am giving my best effort. After all, it is Olympics and the completion will be tough, even the qualifying rounds. Winning or not will be decided by my hard work and Almighty God, who is in control," she said.
