Vir Das' "History of India - VIRitten" tastes success

Mumbai, Sept 11 (IBNS) : India's favourite standup comedian Vir Das took audiences across Aurangabad and Mumbai on a laughter riot over the past weekend with two shows of Ashvin Gidwani Productions' 'History of India VIRitten'. Performing before packed houses, Vir was at his witty and hilarious best.
A quick wit and a fast tongue have propelled Vir Das to superstardom and he looks set to stay there in the near future. The show in Aurangabad organised by the Kalasagar Social Group was held on September 6 and in typical Vir fashion, he had the audience in splits throughout. Vir displayed his knack for playing with words when he said, “A comedian should always be innovative in his act while performing a comedy seriously.”

Over 2.5 lakh people have watched the show since its inception. Vir also said that his most memorable performance was when he performed the act live in front of former president Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The show was received with rapturous applause in Mumbai on September 7 and continues to be one of the main draws in the theatre portfolio for Ashwin Gidwani Productions.

With theatre experiencing a resurgence across the country and stalwarts such as Vir Das, Achint Kaur and Saurabh Shukla showcasing the artform to large numbers, there is a silver lining for actors and thespians  nationwide; surely a sign of good things to come.
