Sarabjit Singh's biopic now to be directed by Omung Kumar

Mumbai, May 8 (IBNS): National award winning director Omung Kumar has finally announced his next film after 'Mary Kom'.

His next film will be based on the life story of Sarabjit Singh and will be co-produced by Zeishan Quadri.

The Sarabjit Singh biopic was earlier reported to be directed by Hansal Mehta and reasons for the sudden change of plan are not known. However, with the success of ‘Mary Kom’, there are a lot of expectations riding on Omung.

Omung confirmed the news, as he said, “Yes, I will be directing and co-producing Sarabjit. Even Though I have three scripts lined up, this will be my next film after Mary Kom.” The biopic on Sarabjit, produced by Omung Kumar and Zeishan Quadri, will be another interesting story that is sure to strike a chord with the audiences.

The story of Sarabjit Singh’s death created a national ruckus and Dalbir’s struggle to free her brother captured the nation’s attention.

Writer Rajesh Beri and Creative Rajesh Nair have been involved in this project with Mukta Arts right from the beginning.

The Mary Kom director will commence shooting the film around October 2015.

He hopes the film will make it to Cannes next year.

Producer-partner Zeishan Quadri commented saying it was premature of Hansal to announce himself as the director for this biopic.
