Kolkata/IBNS: Tollywood superstar Rituparna Sengupta will be essaying the role of a single mother in Tathagata Bhattacherjee's upcoming Bengali film Akorik, which captures the structural changes that have occurred in Bengali families over the generations.

The trailer of the film was recently launched at a press conference at a city hotel.

Speaking of the film, Rituparna says, "Family is a very basic aspect of our life. We can't really think of anything without family. It's always a priority. Obviously family plays a very vital role in our lives.

"When a clash breaks out with our family, it turns out to be a major issue. No matter how much we shine in our profession, any issue related to family makes us feel the tension in the outer world."

"Family's basic structure is very important. We are not judging through this film. Akorik traces the changes in family structure that occurred with generations. This film is very relevant. I always try to do these types of films. I felt very attached to this whole concept," she added.

Akorik is a story about a relationship between an old man, who grew up under the umbrella of traditional Bengali joint family ssystem, and a boy, who lives with his mother – a single parent.

The man and the boy, from two different generations, develop an emotional bonding despite their different upbringing values and eventually share a philosophical journey together.

The film addresses the disintegration of the Bengali joint family system.

The film features veteran actor Victor Banerjee alongside Rituparna.

On his experience of reuniting with Victor Banerjee, Rituparna says, "Victor-da is a stalwart and a legend. I always feel goosebumps working with him.

"I always wonder what new talent I can showcase to be appreciated by Victor-da because he is such a prolific actor not just in Bengal but also internationally."
