Priyanka Sarkar bags role in next Bomkesh flick of Anjan Dutta

Kolkata, Mar 7 (IBNS) With two prestigious upcoming projects in her kitty, Priyanka Sarkar is now upbeat about her characters in telly soap 'Mahanayak' and film 'Bomkesh Bakshi.'
Priyanka, who also yearns to land another role in future Srijit Mukherjee projects after two intense performances in Hemlock Society and (what else!) Rajkahini, tells IBNS "I am okay with both niche and popular subjects as long as I can add something to my character."

The actor, who has done a role of a struggling director spurned by established production houses in Jenana, says "I could sense that director Barshali weaved her own experiences in life in my character. And I personally saw such people.

"This is a crucial phase in Bengali film industry when more accent is being given on the story, characters and their performance graph and less on looks."

"Yes this is going to be a phase when I am working with all my favourite directors from Srijit, Anjan Dutta, Atanu Ghosh (Abby Sen)  to Aparna Sen (in Arshinagar) and my appetite for good roles seems unrequited," she says recalling how she was struck by Barshali's vision to portray the life of male transgenders hanging around traffic signals in Jenana despite she being a debutant director of a much young age.

Priyanka believes this is a silken phase for Bengali film industry where from a sweet romance based film, to a family drama, to a grand, opulent period piece, to a niche subject on subalterns - every theme is being handled with courage and conviction by new and seasoned directors and actors are not shying away.

"That is the reason I had also given nod to the film Andarkahini where shooting has just been completed. From my first director Raj Chakroborty, who launched me in such a way, it has been a long journey till this date. Very much positive about Mahanayak as well," she says.
