Kolkata/IBNS: Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi, who was in Kolkata recently for a signing event for his memoir 'Stories I Must Tell: The Emotional Life of An Actor', said his parents were ahead of their times and had inspired him to do things that he believed in without caring for the consequences.
At the Starmak, South City Mall in Kolkata, the actor, who was seen in Hindi films more during the 70's and 80's era and has received accolades for his work in India, the US, and especially Italy, said: "My mother was simple and both my parents lived an idealistic life.
"They inspired me to do things I believed in no matter the consequences. This gave me the confidence to do and be anything and not be afraid to fail."
Bedi, who was known for his unconventional life, multiple relationships and marriages, onscreen sex appeal and a deep baritone voice, had famously also played the role of a pirate in Sandokan, an Italian TV series in 1976. He also starred in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy.
While he never rose to be a top hero in Bollywood during the 70s, he left a mark for his screen presence. The 1988 action-thriller film 'Khoon Bhari Maang' is one of the famous movies of Bedi's career where he played a villain starring opposite Rekha.
The star's memoir delves into his image of being a casanova and his relationship with late Bollywood actress Parveen Babi.
Bedi's memoir shares intimate details of his love life, family's influence on his life decisions and his experiences of working in a career spanning three continents.
He added that even if someone met his parents briefly they would learn something out of that interaction, as they were progressive considering those days and really open minded.
On being asked how difficult it was to be truthful to himself, the 75-year-old actor said: "I am not only sharing about one's achievements but also writing about my tragedies and failures. It was not easy until I chose to be nothing but be truthful to myself."
From his four marriages, Bedi has three children. His actress-TV presenter daughter Pooja Bedi and late Siddharth Bedi (who committed suicide in 1997) were from his first wife, famous Odissi dancer and former model Protima Bedi who died in a mudslide in Uttarakhand in 1998.
His son international model Adam Bedi, is from second wife Susan Humphreys. He also remained married to radio presenter Nikki Bedi for some years. He later married British-born Parveen Dusanj.
The Lahore-born actor had his memoir released on April 19 in an online event with Priynka Chopra Jonas.
