Lata Mangeshkar turns 91, PM Narendra Modi wishes

Mumbai: Indian singing legend Lata Mangeshkar, whose melodious voice has touched hearts for generations, turned 91 on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Lata and tweeted: "Spoke to respected Lata Didi and conveyed birthday greetings to her. Praying for her long and healthy life. Lata Didi is a household name across the nation. I consider myself fortunate to have always received her affection and blessings.@mangeshkarlata."

Lata Mangeshkar's sister Asha Bhosle also wished her on the special day of the year and posted: "Birthday Greetings to Lata Didi who is 91 today. Remembering our childhood days thru this picture where Didi can be seen seated left and Meena Tai and I are seen standing behind her."

Asha Bhosle shared an old childhood image with the post where all the Mangeshkar sisters could be seen.

Mangeshkar is the second female musician after MS Subbulakshmi to receive the Bharat Ratna, India's highest honour.

A doyenne among playback singers, her career spans over seven decades.
