First-time directors now get backing of producers in Tolly : Sudipta Chakraborty
Kolkata, June 22 (IBNS) Tollywood actress Sudipta Chakraborty feels debutante directors are now mustering the courage to make unconventional films in Bengali with the backing of producers.
"Yes it is a fact that new directors are coming forward with new ideas and finding backers if producers like their script and ability. This is a welcome sign for the industry," Sudipta said when asked about the prospect of Ayan Chakraborti's debut feature film Shororipu which portrays six vices of men, a Noir genre of cinema, among the very few made in Tollywood in past.
"I think even success of Bengali films like Praktan and Belaseshe will make a cascading effect on other works of different genres including films like Shororipu," the Rajkahini, Buno Haans, Half Serious actress said.
Asked if she would call Shororipu a dark film, Sudipta agreed and said the film has several layers - dark shades, manifesting instincts.
"The director has shown courage in dealing with such a subject. The more and more audience back such varied content, the better things will work out for the Bengali cinema," says the actress whose portrayal of a teenaged son's mother in Open tee Bioscope had been universally praised.
Actor Konnenica Banerjee, essaying the role of an outwardly simple charming girl who is complex deep inside, said it was after a long time that she was given such space in a film by the director instead of lesser-duration appearances in other previous works.
Actor-MLA Chiranjeet Chakraborty said: "Now there is a golden phase for Bengali film industry with the success of Praktan."
"Shororipu, which also reflected the changing shades of the truth inquisitor from the ones in Kiriti Roy or Byomkesh Baksi, to the modern day type, can't just be defined as a new-noir film. It is a thriller," Chiranjeet, the Chotuskone pointsman, says.
Produced by Fab Four Films, Shororipu was premiered on June 17 evening.
