Filmmaker Goutam Halder, who directed Vidya Balan in her first film ‘Bhalo Theko’, dies of heart attack in Kolkata

Reputed filmmaker and theatre personality Goutam Halder died of a heart attack on Friday morning. He was 67.

According to media reports, soon after he fell ill all of a sudden on Friday morning, he was being rushed to the hospital.

However, he could not be saved and he died on the way to the hospital.

Halder directed actress Vidya Balan in her debut film ‘Bhalo Theko’, which was released in 2003.

Veteran actress Rakhi Gulzar played the protagonist.

Halder even accompanied Balan at Kalighat and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport recently on October 13 and 14, respectively.

Vidya Balan was the heroine of his first film.

“It’s a bit of a personal loss for me. He was a very good friend of my parents and more like a guardian,” actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay, who also acted in ‘Bhalo Theko’, alongside Joy Sengupta and Vidya Balan, told The Telegraph.

Apart from directing films, Halder was also an important personality in the theatre world.

He had directed around 80 plays in his career.
