Fantasy tale wedding on telly for Bengali children

| | Aug 17, 2015, at 03:43 pm
Kolkata, Aug 17 (IBNS) Bringing back the fantasy tale flavour of 'Thakurmar Jhuli' days and to wean away the Gen Next kids from the staple diet of animated comics and computer games on TV, a premier Bengali channel now hosts the first ever 'rupkathar biye' on sets in the princely state of Achinpur.

"Our Kiranmala has already been accepted by the Bengali audience. Now the fantasy wedding will surpass the Cinderella ball dance floor in opulence where the beautiful commoner girl had met the prince and left behind her shoes. In Kiranmala the wedding will be Bengali with sat pak [seven rounds] and all. Kiranmala is weaning back the Doreman audiences and has revived the interest about Thakumar Jhuli," director Simanto Banerjee tells IBNS on location in Purple MovieTown studio.

Kumar Prithviraj, a.k.a  Farhan Imroze, donning costumes of a fairy tale prince, says "Frankly speaking our generation had not been exposed to Thakumar jhuli the way the previous generations were. But if they have their snow whites we have our very own Arun, Barun, Kiranmala. Both talk about the triumph of Good over evil."

Ritam Ghosal, story and script writer, says: "This is the first ever fantasy wedding on small screen where detailing has been taken good care of. There will be demon slaying with the sword along with wedding scenes where petals will be showered from heaven."

"Instead of the gory action scenes if today's children are fed with our own treasure, which they don't know, their interest will revive. We the adults are to be blamed for the declining interest of the future generation towards our roots," Ritam says about the telly serial by Surinder Films.
