'Dunki' trailer: Shah Rukh Khan's film promises to be a rebel against English imposition

The rebellion against the imposition of English language on Indians was the most glaring aspect in the trailer of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming release 'Dunki'. The trailer was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday.

In various parts of the trailer, Shah Rukh, his co-stars Vicky Kaushal and others were seen trying to manage speaking English to fulfill their dreams to go to London.

Frustrated over the struggle to speak English, Vicky questions whether foreigners know Punjabi even after staying in Punjab, India.

In the very next scene, Shah Rukh says, "The British ruled us for 100 years. When they came to India, did we ask whether they know Hindi or not? If we hadn't stopped them from coming to India, how can they stop us?"

Apart from Vicky, the film, which is directed by eminent filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, features Taapsee Pannu as Shah Rukh's "girlfriend", Anil Grover, Vikram Kochhar and Boman Irani.

The film, which is produced by Rajkumar Hirani and Gauri Khan, will release in theatres on December 22 on the occasion of Christmas.

Shah Rukh, who suffered a jolt in 2018 following a dull run of his film 'Zero' in the box office, took a break from acting and made his fans wait for four years.

The actor stormed back to films with action film 'Pathaan' in January 2023 and doubled his success with 'Jawan' which released in September of the same year.
