Mumbai/IBNS: Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s Tere Ishk Mein opened to packed theatres on Friday, registering a strong initial response at the box office.

Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the romantic drama collected over ₹16 crore on its opening day, with the Hindi version contributing the bulk of the earnings.

According to co-producer T-Series, the film earned ₹15.06 crore from the Hindi version alone. The Tamil version added ₹75 lakh to the total, The Times of India reported. The film has also been released in Telugu.

Despite the impressive opening, Tere Ishk Mein has received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences. Reviewers have pointed out uneven writing, a convoluted narrative and noticeable logic gaps, particularly in the second half.

The film’s portrayal of love has also sparked debate, with some critics describing it as obsessive or toxic, calling the storyline a “flawed tale of toxic love and obsession.”

Its nearly three-hour runtime and slow pacing have drawn further criticism, with many feeling the film drags in parts and dips into melodrama. On social media, several viewers labelled portions of the film “cringe,” complained of a collapsing plot in the latter half and even mentioned walkouts during screenings.
