'Belaseshe' retains Tarun Majumder's school of cinema : Rituparna

Kolkata, Apr 28 (IBNS) Tollywood diva Rituparna Sengupta describes her upcoming film Belaseshe, where she is cast as the daughter of thespian Soumitra Chatterjee, as retaining the flavor of veteran Bengali director Tarun Majumder's school of cinema.

“Belaseshe, where music plays an important part, bears the legacy of Tarunda’s brand of cinema. You may call it the Hum Sath Sath Hain type,” Rituparna told IBNS after the music launch of the film at South City Mall.

Observing she finds great pleasure to be part of the films by Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay-Nandita Roy, the actress said,  “Their aesthetic sense manifests over set designs, shots, soundscape and above all shots. Everything.”

Rituparna, who has also other important arthouse releases lined up this year,  feels using Rabindrasangeet elevates a film adding a new dimension.

“We need to go back to our roots to retain and get the Bengali audiences. We need to have content rich cinema,” she said.

About acting opposite Soumitra Chatterjee as his daughter in the film, Rituparna said, “It gives you a cathartic feeling to share the screen with Soumitra Kaku (uncle). Another motivating factor.”

From Anupam Roy’s typical new age pensive ‘Obhabe Keno’, to 19th centgury balladeer Lalon Fakir’s immortal Milan Habe Kato Dine (sung by Sasha), from Chandrabindoo frontman Anindyo Chattopadhyay’s ‘Belasesher Gaan’ to Supratik’s ‘O Je Mane Na Mana’ the film is studded with eight tracks.

Belaseshe, introduced by Windows Production and Atanu Raychoudhuri, would be released on May one, the fifth one by the director duo of blockbuster Ichhe.
