Zakia not happy with Gulberg Society massacre verdict
Ahmadabad, June 17 (IBNS) 2002 Gujarat riots victim Zakiya Jafri on Friday said she was not happy with the verdict given by a court in the Gulberg Society massacre case.
The 11 people convicted for murder in the Gulbarg Society massacre case have been sentenced to life an jail by the Ahmedabad court on Friday.
Twelve others, who were convicted of lesser offences, have been given seven years in jail. One of the convicted was given 10 years in jail.
Speaking to reporters after the verdict were announced, Zakia said: "I am not satisfied with it."
"I will have to consult my lawyers again," ex-Congress MP Ehsan Jafri's wife said.
The judge called the massacre the darkest day in the history of civil society, media reported.
A special SIT court on Jun 2 gave its verdict in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case of Gulbarg Society when 24 people were found guilty, 11 of murder.
But the announcement of the quantum of punishment was postponed several times.
The court acquitted 36 people.
The Gulbarg Housing Society massacre left 69 persons, including ex-Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, dead.
