Bengaluru/IBNS: Defending his government's action after the tragic Bengaluru stampede, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar asked what more the government can do, citing the steps taken by CM Siddaramaiah, like ordering an enquiry and filing FIRs.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said: "The Opposition party was asking for a judicial inquiry, immediately. My honourable Chief Minister was kind enough to announce a judicial inquiry."

"Some of the investigations are underway. The financial inquiry, judicial investigation. What more can a government do? The government has done its best," Shivakumar said.

Eleven people died and nearly 50 were injured when the crowd outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium swelled and went uncontrollable turning the celebratory mood into a nightmare within moments.

On Thursday, Siddaramaiah, who is under attack from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Wednesday's stampede, suspended the police commissioner and his deputy.

He said the next step will be against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and their publicist, DNA Entertainment, Siddaramaiah told the media this evening.

Seemanth Kumar Singh will now replace city police chief B Dayananda.

As per preliminary findings, the KSCA, DNA Networks, and the RCB franchise went ahead with the felicitation ceremony of the winning IPL team despite not having received permission.

Earlier, FIRs were also filed against the RCB franchise; DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an event management company; and the KSCA for culpable homicide, illegal assembly, and other serious charges.

They did not provide proper facilities or manage the crowd entry, even after being warned by the police, according to the initial investigation.
