Kolkata/IBNS: Two members of a family were shot dead and another man sustained bullet injury after an off-duty policeman attached with Bidhannagar City Police allegedly fired multiple rounds of bullets during a family brawl at Tentulia village under Amdanga Police Station limits in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Friday late night, reports said on Saturday.

According to locals, during a long-run argument between two families at Tentulia village's Panchanantala area, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate's constable Santosh Patra, who is a resident of the area and was off-duty that time, suddenly fired multiple rounds of bullets from his service revolver.

Two brothers, Arup Mondal and Sumanta Mondal, and another neighbour were shot and were rushed to Barasat Sadar Hospital where the two brothers were declared dead while another man is undergoing treatment there.

On Saturday morning, while BJP MP from Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency, Arjun Singh, was trying to visit Amdanga, he was reportedly stopped by local police and he engaged in an argument with the policemen there.

Later, he entered the village and met the victims' family members, according to reports.

A senior official of Barasat Police District said that an FIR has been registered against the accused policeman and an investigation has been initiated while the cop is absconding since the incident took place.
