Kolkata/IBNS: Days after testing positive for Covid-19, Trinamool Congress (AITC/TMC) candidate in North 24 Parganas' Khardaha assembly seat, Kajal Sinha, died in a Kolkata hospital on Sunday morning, reports said.

According to reports, 59-year-old Kajal Sinha had tested positive for novel coronavirus on Wednesday, a day before the election was held in Khardaha on Thursday (Apr 22), and he was admitted to Kolkata's Beliaghata ID and BG hospital after his health condition deteriorated.

Condoling his death, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Very, very sad. Shocked. Kajal Sinha, our candidate from Khardaha, succumbed to Covid. He dedicated his life to serving people & just fought a tireless campaign. He was a long-serving committed member of AITC. We will miss him. My condolences to his family & his admirers."

Earlier, Congress candidate in Murshidabad's Samserganj AC, Md. Rezaul Haqur aka Mantu Biswas, and RSP candidate in Jangipur AC in the same district, Pradip Nandi, succumbed to Covid-19 due to which the Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled polling in the two assembly seats to May 16.
