West Bengal Police with NGO sensitize women and children against perils of abuse and trafficking in Baruipur region
Kolkata: The pandemic may be the worst of times for all, but for a strike forces of social workers led by the West Bengal police and an NGO, it was time to reach out to the villagers of Kolkata's contiguous South 24 Parganas district with some crucial messages that can protect the children and women from the evils of society.
A tableau supported by the NGO World Vision India rolled through the remote villages of different police station areas under Baruipur Police District from June 4 to July 4 promoting awareness against child marriage, child labour, child abuse, cyber safety, Covid19 and human trafficking.
The programme was carried out under the Swayangsiddha project of West Bengal Police.
The LED fitted tableau would be seen from 4 pm to 9 pm showing sensitization videos and social messages of police, NGO and West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR).
After counting the daily sheet it is found that the campaign covered a total 47,918 people in 30 days.
Amid lockdown it was tough to reach people but the World Vision supported Baruipur police district workers nevertheless overcame the hurdles.
The vehicle was accompanied by local police officers who used to listen to people to sort out their problems. NGO members were present with the tableau with a sanitizing machine to sanitize the houses of covid patients.
"We reached many villages but have not been able to send the tableau to Gosaba PS and Sundarban PS crossing the river yet. We are planning for the same to be done very quickly," said Inspector Kakali Ghosh Kundu, IC Baruipur Women PS.
"We are thankful to World Vision, stakeholders, teachers, students, clubs and other NGO members who helped police for promoting sensitization as an extended part of the Swayangsiddha project of WBP," she said.
Indrajit Basu, Addl SP, Zonal, said the Baruipur Police District is putting its best effort to combat offences against women and children.
"Like previous two years this year also Baruipur Police Dist will arrange caravan tableau movement throughout remote villages of the district ahead of the Durga Puja for promoting sensitisation against offences against women and children," he said.
