West Bengal man linked to Nizamuddin gathering tests positive, active Covid-19 cases in state reach 49

Kolkata/IBNS: The number of coronavirus cases in West Bengal mounted to 49 as the state government on Saturday confirmed 11 new cases while officials of the Kolkata Port Trust reported that an employee of one of its contractors, who had attended Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi, had been found Covid-19 positive in Haldia.

Senior officials of Kolkata Port Trust said that the man had returned to his workplace at Haldia dock from Delhi on Mar 24.

"The contractor's employee, who has tested positive for novel coronavirus, could not join his duties in the berth, which is operated by his employer, as the operation has been shut down due to the nationwide lockdown, but, he might have visited the docks," a KoPT officials said.

"As a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19, we have identified and quarantined as many as 15 other officer-workers who might have had any kind of contact with the Covid-19 infected man," the official added.

"Our efforts to sanitize and disinfect the dock area is underway in full swing."

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha said that 11 new cases of novel coronavirus had been reported in the state in last 24 hours while there was no new report of death due to Covid-19.

"Currently West Bengal is treating 49 active cases of novel coronavirus while 12 Covid-19 patients have recovered from the infection in the state so far," Sinha said.
