Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal police on Monday night held a person from Dankuni area in Kolkata's neighbouring Hooghly district for allegedly trying to sell cow urine and cow dung claiming that these had powers to ward off Coronavirus infection, reports said on Tuesday.

The middle-aged man, who has been identified as Sk. Mamud Ali was seen selling a variety of cow urine and cow dung at a price range between Rs. 200 and Rs. 500 (per lt/kg) beside Kolkata-Delhi highway in Dankuni area.

The cow urine seller claimed that he was inspired by the cow urine drinking party which was hosted by a Hindu group in Delhi few days ago.

"After watching a video of Delhi cow urine drinking party to prevent Coronavirus on social media, I made the idea to sell cow urine and cow dung that people can buy it and have it to combat the infection," Mamud said.

Later, local police rushed to the spot and besides arresting him, they removed his stall from the area.

"After being informed that a man was selling cow urine and spreading rumour that it could ward off Covid-19, we promptly took action and held the man," a local police official said.

Meanwhile, two local BJP leaders were reportedly seen worshiping cows and drinking their urine to fight off Covid-19 in Kolkata's Jorasanko area and Raiganj in North Dinajpur district.

In Kolkata's incident, a city police's traffic cop, who was also seen drinking the cow urine, registered a complaint with Jorabagan Police Station on Tuesday.
