West Bengal: COVID cases jump to 1678 with 130 fresh cases, nine deaths in last 24 hours

Kolkata/IBNS: With 130 new infections being reported in last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 1678, including 1195 active cases, 88 fatalities and 323 discharges, reports said on Friday.

According to reports, of the total 130 fresh Covid positive cases, 63 cases were reported only from Kolkata while its neighbouring districts, Howrah and North 24 Parganas, confirmed 38 and 12 cases respectively.

Issuing a bulletin, West Bengal Health and Family Welfare department said that in the last 24 hours, nine COVID-19 deaths were reported from the state while 27 persons were discharged after treatment.

Meanwhile, the total number of deaths, mostly caused by comorbidities, stands at 72, the bulletin stated.

According to the bulletin, the state's current recovery rate is 19.25 per cent. 

The bulletin stated that West Bengal had tested 35767 samples till date, with 3015 tests being conducted in past 24 hours.

Presently, 4964 persons are kept in government quarantine centres across West Bengal while 9576 people are under home surveillance in the state, reports said.
