Lucknow, Feb 13 (IBNS): Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindhia today announced an alliance with regional outfit Mahan Dal.

Speaking to reports for the first time as Congress general secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka welcomed Keshav Dev Maurya, the chief of Mahan Dal.

"I want to welcome Mauriyaji. He will fight the election with us," said Priyanka.

Priyanka said Congress presidents Rahul Gandhi has set them the target of establishing a kind of politics of taking everyone along and with representation from all sections of the society.

"This is a step in that direction," she said. "We want to this better in the future."

Mahan Dal has some influence in west Uttar Pradesh, which Scindhia is in charge of.

East Uttar Pradesh, which is Priyanka's responsibility, has the constituencies of BJP heavyweights such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Varanasi) and the state's chief minister Yogi Adityanath (Gorakhpur).

"In the fight of 2019, we will fight with all our might," said Priyanka.

The Congress intends to fight from all the 80 seats in the state.
