WB: BSF seize gold, silver from Nadia district
Kolkata, Apr 23 (IBNS): The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday said its troops have seized 1.43 kg & 3.46 kg gold and silver respectively along Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
“On 23rd April 2015, troops of BOP Banpur, 113 Bn BSF seized 1.43 kg & 3.46 kg Gold and Silver respectively, total seized Rs. 37,54,506/- along Indo-Bangladesh border at Nadia district,” the BSF said in a statement.
On 23rd April 2015, at about 2015 hrs BSF troops received an specific intelligence regarding smuggling of gold ornaments and silver from India to Bangladesh.
Acting on information, BSF troops planned an special operation at Bordering area of BOP Banpur. During the operation, troops of BSF spotted the movement of 04 persons near fence and alerted ambush party.
“Spl party challenged them but they managed to escape from the spot due to darkness and dense crops left behind 02 packets. After opening the plastic wrapped packets Spl party recovered 1430 gms Gold worth Rs 36,39,350/- and 3460 gms Silver worth Rs. 1,15,156/- , total seized value Rs 37,54,506. Seized Gold and Silver has been handed over to local custom office Banpur, dist- Nadia for further investigation,” it said.
“South Bengal Frontier of BSF has seized more than 11.11 Kg of Gold and approx value Rs. 3,00,48,043 /- and 68.46 kg Silver approx value Rs. 19,48,382/- has apprehended 8 smugglers this year,” the force said.
