Water security challenges must be addressed for nation's development: PM Modi

Yadgir/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said if India has to develop, challenges related to water security should be addressed like border, coastal and internal security.

"If India has to develop security like border security, coastal security, internal security, the challenges related to water security should also be addressed and it must end. Water security is essential for the development of 21st century India," he said after launching a slew of projects.

"People have to build a developed India in Amrit Kaal, and it would be only possible when every citizen of the country, every family, every state joins this campaign," he said.

"Our government started an aspirational district program in more than 100 such districts of the country including Yadgir. We emphasized on good governance in these districts. Started working on every scale of development," he said.

Modi said, "Har Ghar Jal Abhiyan is also an example of the double benefit of a double engine government. Double engine means double welfare, double rapid development."

"In our country, crores of small farmers were also deprived of every comfort for decades, they were not even taken care of in government policies. Today this small farmer is the biggest priority of the agricultural policy of the country," he said.

Modi said India can become 'Developed', only when the 'Farms' and the 'Factories' are both prosperous.

"The next 25 years are 'Amrit Kaal' for every citizen, for every State. India will move ahead to become a truly developed country; and this will come true only with the collective march of everyone - right from the farmers to the businessmen - everyone should come forward and give their best," he said.

"The way the development is being carried out in North Karnataka is appreciable. As India has completed 75 years of her independence, now is the time it marches ahead with yet more stronger spirits in the coming times," PM added.

The ongoing developmental projects would not only enhance the ease of living in the areas of Yadgir, Kalaburagi, and Raichur, but will also strengthen the employment therein, Modi said.

Modi said work has started today on the part of the Surat-Chennai Economic Corridor which falls in Karnataka which will also increase the 'Ease of Doing' in the entire region including Yadgir, Raichur and Kalaburagi and boost employment.

Wishing further prosperity of Yadgiri, Modi said right from the drone technology and modern farm-facilities to the push towards organic farming, everything has been existing in Yadgir.

Modi said India can develop when the farmer working in the field or the laborer working in the industries, everyone's life is better.

"Water Security and developments related to the Pharma sector have also been ensured in Yadgir. Be it Health, Education or Connectivity, everything has been strengthened here and Yadgir has thus remained under the Top-10 Aspirational Districts of the country," he said.

"100 percent villages of the area have been provided with roads and Common Service Centres have been established to provide digital services," he added.

Yadgir has seen 100 percent vaccination of children and there has been a significant decline in the number of malnourished children in the area, Modi said.

"Yadgir is a bowl of pulses, the pulses here reach across the country. In the last 7-8 years, if India has reduced foreign dependence on pulses, then the farmers of North Karnataka have a big role in it," he said.

The central government has also bought pulses 80 times from farmers on MSP in these 8 years, Modi said.

Before 2014, farmers used to get 100 crore rupees for pulses, while the central government has given 60,000 crore rupees to pulse farmers, he said.

"Along with Yadgir, we brought prospects of 'Good-governance' in 100 Aspirational districts of the country," he said.

Modi said since 2014, the development has been unprecedented compared to previous governments which did not even think about removing the backwardness of this area.

"They did not bother to invest or develop any infrastructure here. But unlike them, our government is not focussed upon 'Vote-bank Politics', but on Development, Development and Development," he said.

"In our country, crores of small farmers were also deprived of every comfort for decades, they were not even taken care of in government policies. Today, this small farmer is the biggest priority of the agricultural policy of the country," PM added.
