Patna/UNI: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said he was waiting for Congress to take the initiative for evolving national-level opposition unity to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Kumar told media here that he had called on top leaders of opposition parties last year after forming the Grand Alliance government in August his snapping of ties with the NDA.

He had also called on top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the issue of forging national-level opposition unit.

Chief Minister sai d the Congress is busy with Bharat Jodo Yatra and after it gets over, the party should take a call on national-level opposition unity.

"If Congress convened a meeting, all opposition parties would sit together to discuss modalities for coming together to take on BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha elections," he added.

Kumar said there was no difficulty in opposition unity in Bihar as seven parties were already constituents of the Grand Alliance government formed by him in August last year.

The discussion was needed to finalise the strategy and modalities in other states for the purpose, he added.

As it is, Chief Minister had announced in August last year after deserting NDA to work sincerely to evolve opposition unity at the national level to counter BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

He had also dismissed the speculations that he was interested to become the PM candidate of opposition parties for the next Lok Sabha elections.

His only ambition was to forge opposition unity at the national level to oust BJP from power at the Centre, he had affirmed
