Bengaluru/IBNS: Karnataka Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement) K. Ramachandra Rao has been suspended after a viral video purportedly showed him in a compromising manner with several women inside his office during duty hours, media reports said.

The suspension order, quoted by The New Indian Express, stated that Rao had “acted in an obscene manner which is unbecoming of a government servant and has caused embarrassment to the government.”

During the period of suspension, Rao will not be allowed to leave headquarters without prior written permission from the state government.

In its order, cited by NDTV, the government said it was prima facie satisfied that disciplinary action was necessary.

“The State Government is prima facie satisfied that it is necessary to place Dr K. Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, under suspension with immediate effect, pending inquiry,” the order read.

Rao has denied the allegations, describing the video as “fabricated” and “false.”

The action came a day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah warned that strict steps would be taken if the officer was found guilty.
