Vikas Swarup takes over as MEA Spokesperson

New Delhi, Apr 18 (IBNS): Senior diplomat Vikas Swarup took over as Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday.

He takes over the baton from Syed Akbaruddin.

"Thank you Akbar!!! A new inning begins for me. And some big shoes to fill," Swarup tweeted.

A 1986 batch IFS officer, Swarup has been promoted as Additional Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry and will also be the Chief Coordinator for the India-Africa Summit in October.

Both Akbaruddin and Swarup had accompanied Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his three-nation tour and returned on Saturday.

Prior to this responsibility, Swarup was the Joint Secretary(United Nations- Political) in the MEA.
