Uttar Pradesh: Notification for biennial legislative council polls for 11 seats issued

Lucknow/UNI: Notification to the much awaited biennial elections to 11 seats from the graduate and teachers constituencies to the Uttar Pradesh legislative council was issued here on Thursday where polling is scheduled for December 1.

The elections were delayed by 6 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic as these seats fell vacant on May 6 last after the end of the tenure of five graduate seat members and six teachers constituency members.

According to the programme, November 12 will be the last date for filing of the nominations. Scrutiny of papers would be done on November 13 and the last date for withdrawal is November 17.

Sources said that the polling would be held between 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs on December 1 and counting of votes would be done on December 3.

The seats where the biennial polls will be held are Lucknow division, Varanasi division, Agra division, Meerut division and Allahabad-Jhansi division of the graduate constituencies and Lucknow division, Varanasi division, Agra division, Meerut division, Bareilly-Moradabad division and Gorakhpur-Faizabad division of the teachers constituencies.
