Bulandshahr/UNI: A 13-year-old mentally retarded girl was sexually assaulted by a youth in the Khurja area of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Bajragbali Chaurasia said that the incident took place when the victim, who is impaired, was playing in front of her house along with the other children of the village.

"During this, a 35-year-old youth named Kanhaiya grabbed the victim and raped her," he said.

He said that the accused was nabbed by the villagers, who thrashed him one by one before handing him over to the police.

"A case was lodged after arresting the youth. The victim has been sent for a medical examination," he said.

The SP said that the accused is said to be a friend of one of the brothers of the victim.
