Mainpuri:  A man accused of the murder of three members of a family in the Karhal area of Mainpuri district here in Uttar Pradesh was arrested in an encounter with police on Tuesday, a police officer said here.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Kumar said a tip-off was received that Rahul Yadav, who was accused of triple murder, was attempting to flee.

"Acting on the tip off the Karhal and Kurra police surrounded the accused near railway underpass on which Rahul opened fire on the police party," he said.

He said that in retaliatory firing Rahul sustained bullet injury and was subsequently arrested.

"The accused, who has admitted his crime, has been admitted to the district hospital," he said.

It may be noted that three members of a family were shot dead over a dispute related to the exit way between two houses in Karhal area.

Police sources said that Kayam Singh, a resident of Nagla Atiram village, was having a dispute with his neighbour and relative Sobaran Singh over the exit way between their houses.

"On Monday members of the Sobran side fired indiscriminately on Kayam Singh and his family over the issue. While Kayam (50), his father Rameshwar Singh (75) and daughter-in-law Mamata (27) were killed in the firing, Sarojini Devi sustained bullet injury," they said.

Sources said that a case was lodged against 9 persons, including the main accused Rahul Yadav, in this regard.

"Family members of the main accused also absconding from the village. Additional force has been deployed in Nagla Atiram village," they said.
