Uttar Pradesh: Four children drown in Ken river

Four children, including two girls, drowned and one went missing while taking a bath in Ken river in Pailani area of Banda district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, a police officer said here.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Laxmi Niwas Mishra said that five children from Gurgawan village had gone to take bath in Ken river.

"While taking bath the children slept in deep water and started drowning," he said.

He said that the police reached the spot after getting information and pulled out four children with the help of the divers.

"The children were taken to the district hospital where doctors declared them dead. The deceased have been identified as Rakhi (18), Suryansh (5), Vijay Laxmi (14) and Pushpendra (8)," he said.

He said that one of the children was still missing and a rescue operation was being carried out by the divers.
