Uttar Pradesh bypolls: BJP set to win 5 seats, SP leads in 2

Lucknow/UNI: Ruling BJP set to win five of the seven Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh at stake in the bypolls claiming its supremacy.

The principal opposition Samajwadi Party was leading in 2 seats.

The BJP is likely to win 5 seats with bigger margin compared to the 2017 assembly elections.

But there was a surprise in the voting at Naugawan Sadat seat where BJP candidate Sangeeta Chauhan who was leading till the last moment suddenly started trailing and she was behind SP's Javed Abbas by 8537 votes.

But during this bypolls four cornered contest in the state has benefited the ruling BJP as all the three opposition parties - SP, BSP and Congress candidates have got sufficient votes to divide the opposition votes.

According to officials, BJP candidates was on the verge of winning the Bulandshahr, Tundla, Ghatampur, Deoria, and Bangarmau seats while SP was leading in Naugawan Sadat and Malhani seats.

As per the Election Commission figure, the BJP received a vote share of 35.90 per cent in this bypolls in 7 seats followed by 23.90 per cent by SP, 18.47 per cent by BSP, 7.7 per cent by Congress and 12.31 per cent by others.

Javed Abbas of SP, who was leading in the morning till the 10th round has again taken over 6000 votes lead on Sangeeta Chauhan of BJP in Naugawan Sadat seat in Amroha . Sangeeta is the widow of former UP minister and Cricketer Chetan Chauhan, who recently died due to Corona which led to the bypolls.

In Bulandshahr, BJP's Usha Sirohi was leading against her nearest BSP candidate Mohammad Yunus by over 19,000 votes while in Tundla seat, BJP's Prempal Singh Dhangar was ahead of SP's Maharaj Singh Dhangar by over 10,000 votes.

In Bangarmau seat, BJP candidate Suresh Kumar Pal was comfortable against Congress candidate Ms Arti Bajpai by over 29,000 votes and in Ghatampur seat BJP candidate Upendra Nath Paswan was leading over Kuldeep Sankhwar of BSP by over 20,000 votes.

In Deoria seat, BJP candidate Dr Satya Prakash Mani Tripathi was ahead against his nearest SP candidate Brahmashankar Tripathi by over 20,000 votes while SP candidate Lucky Yadav was leading against his nearest Independent candidate and former MP Dhananjay Singh by over 5300 votes.
