Jaunpur, July 12 (UNI): A man allegedly threw acid on a woman after she resisted a rape attempt by him in the Sujanganj area of this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Friday.

Based on a written complaint by the survivor's husband, a case against a man of the same village has been registered.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vipin Kumar Mishra said that the victim, a resident of Kundaha village, had left her home on Wednesday morning to relieve herself. While on her way, the accused dragged her to his room and tried to rape her. When she tried to resist, he threw acid on her private parts.

On hearing her screams, a crowd gathered at the spot while the accused managed to escape.

The victim has been admitted to a hospital while a police team has been formed to nab the accused.
