US Patels call off protest against PM Narendra Modi
New York, Sept 24 (IBNS) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached USA, a group of Patels in USA who had reportedly planned a protest to express solidarity with their community in India demanding reservation in Gujarat, called off their proposed agitation and said they would welcome the Indian PM, said media reports.
Modi will attend the United Nations General Assembly session in New York during his visit and will also meet President Barack Obama.
According to an NDTV report, the protest planned outside New York's Waldorf Astoria hotel where the PM is staying was cancelled "following negotiations late last night with a faction seen as supporting Mr Modi."
"We never spoke of protests, always spoke of a welcome rally," NDTV quoted Alpesh Patel, spokesperson of the group, saying.
The protest was planned to support the reservation for Patels agitation in Gujarat led by the young Hardik Patel.
Wrapping up his visit to Ireland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his US trip as he arrived in New York City Wednesday.
"The Prime Minister will focus on various investment opportunities in India, during his meetings with CEOs in New York City on September 24th," read a government statement.
He will interact with CEOs from financial sector organizations including JP Morgan and Blackstone, during a roundtable meeting.
He will also interact with top American CEOs at an event organized by Time Magazine and Fortune, in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
The American companies that will feature during this meeting include Lockheed Martin, Ford, IBM, PepsiCo, GE, Boeing and MasterCard, among many others.
The Prime Minister will also have a roundtable meeting on media, technology and communications.
