New Delhi/UNI: United States (US) First Lady Melania Trump spent about an hour interacting with students and teachers at Sarvodaya Co-Ed Senior Secondary School here on Tuesday.

Visiting the Delhi Government school as a part of her visit to the city, Melania Trump interacted with the students and teachers at the school in South Delhi's Nanakpura.

Dressed in a white floral midi, the US First Lady was welcomed with 'aarti' and a tilak on her forehead.

She attended a happiness class and as a teacher went through the day's activities, engaging with the young minds.

She was showing keen interest in learning about the happiness curriculum as the blackboard in the background had inscribed on it 'We Sing, We Play, We Laugh'.

The school was decorated with flowers with children lined up, waving India and US flags. The US First Lady was seen speaking to children in a classroom seeking to gain first-hand knowledge about their activities.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said it is a great day for Delhi Government schools.

Both he and his deputy Manish Sisodia who looks after Education portfolio had not been invited to the event though the US Embassy had later said that it had no objection to the presence of Chief Minister at the school.

Earlier, the Trumps visited Raj Ghat and paid floral tributes at the 'samadhi' of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. They also planted a tree in the green campus of Raj Ghat.

Trump and Melania laid a wreath at the memorial and observed one minute of silence.

The Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri who accompanied them to Raj Ghat gifted a bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
