Kolkata/UNI: Two suspected al Qaeda terrorists, one of them in charge of the West Bengal operation, have been arrested from a hideout in North 24 Parganas district, official sources confirmed on Thursday.

The arrested al Qaeda activists were identified as Abdur Rafique alias Habiboor Kazi and Kazi Ehsan Mollah alias Hasan.

Abdur Rafique is Commandant of West Bengal operation of al Qaeda Indian subcontinent, a senior police official confirmed.

He is the resident of Gangarampur of South Dinajpur, a North Bengal district bordering Bangladesh.

The special task force of West Bengal police following an input laid a trap at Kharibari in North 24 Parganas on Wednesday in anticipation that Abdur Rafique would meet another al Qaeda activist Mollah at a pre-determined hideout for consultation regarding training place for the would-be recruit terrorists at a borderline between West Bengal and Bangladesh, police said.

The duo was picked up when they met before proceeding to another hide-out in the same district.

Police also seized incriminating documents from them when the duo was arrested.

Police said the arrested duo would be produced before a court of law for the judicial process.
