Two stabbed to death in clashes over road rage incident, leads to mob fury

Guwahati, July 5 (IBNS): A clash between two groups left two persons stabbed to death and three others injured over an incident of road rage in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Th incident led to mob fury and some people had attacked Arunachal Pradesh people and vandalised several Arunachal registration vehicles.

The incident took place at Paltan Bazar area in Dibrugarh district on Wednesday night.

According to the reports, the incident began when a person named Gunin Chetia hailing from Tinsukia district, was driving to Assam Medical College Hospital at Dibrugarh town in his Arunachal Pradesh registration car along with his mother and pregnant wife.

Gunin Chetia was stopped by a group and accusing him about using of high beams and the group thrashed him from the vehicle.

While Chetia was returning on the same route along with his friend after dropping his mother and pregnant wife he saw the same persons and got into an altercation with them.

Gunin Chetia and his friend attacked the group by using sharp weapons and fled from the area.

Five persons were badly injured and two among them were succumbed to their injuries at hospital.

Later, mob vandalised the vehicle and searching them at different hotels, lodges.

In the meantime, rumour began to spread out that, Arunachali people were behind the attack and several Arunachali people, who came to Dibrugarh for medical treatment were beaten up by mobs and the mobs also vandalised several Arunachal Pradesh registration vehicles.

Before the situation turned more violent, Dibrugarh district police had deployed more forces in the town to maintain law and order situation and arrested Gunin Chetia and his friend Sanjay Ahmed.

“The incident took place at Paltan Bazar area, where two youths came on a Swift Dzire car had attacked 7-8 local persons by using sharp weapons. Few of them were engaged in the Assam Medical College Hospital. The attackers fled from the area before locals gathered in the area. Police had rushed to the area and seized the vehicle. Five persons were injured in the attack and two among them were succumbed to their injuries at hospital. Rumour began to spread out that, Arunachali people were behind the attack. Immediately we had arrested the main accused person and he also confessed about his crime. He used the Arunachal registration vehicle and so the rumours spreading out. It is now cleared that, no Arunachali people is engaged in the attack,” a police officer said.
