Two-day disability summit starts in Guwahati

Guwahati, July 12 (IBNS): To provide a common platform for the North East region to promote inclusive growth with reference to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the region and to create awareness among all stakeholders including students, academicians, administrators, law and enforcement authorities, disability organisations in the region about the PwD act, initiatives taken by the government at different levels, a ‘North East Disability Summit’ has been organised by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in the city.

The two-day long summit along with loan and job fairs started at the auditorium of Gauhati University on Friday.

Shakuntala Doley Gamlin, secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment of Government of India, inaugurated the summit on Friday.

Officials of both Union and state governments, various disability organisations and NGOs were present at the inauguration programme.

Hundreds of PwDs are taking part in the event.
