Agartala/UNI: North Tripura police arrested a 35-year-old man today for raping a 50-year-old health worker in Sarala village, Dharmanagar, on Sunday.

Debu Tanti was escorting the woman, a village midwife, at night when she was returning home after helping his wife deliver their baby.

Police said the woman was feeling insecure to return home when Debu offered to escort her.

After reaching an isolated place Debu dragged the midwife to a nearby jungle.

He was allegedly gagged her with a piece of cloth so that she couldn't cry for help. Unable to bear the sexual assault, she fainted and Debu left the place leaving her alone.

After gaining consciousness, she went home and later reported the matter to police.

A month ago, a 90-year-old widow at Barahaldi village of Kanchanpur in North Tripura was allegedly raped by a 35-yeary-old auto driver Anjan Namo of the same locality and another unidentified person.
